Happy St. Patricks!
My best to all of those green-clad celebrants today on St. Patrick's Day! I don't have any Irish blessings for you (maybe I will put a few in the comments section), but I will give you a couple interesting facts. (Photo compliments of J. Trabert, taken last Friday on my way home from work)
Slainte America! Celebrating St. Patrick's Day with parades and drinking green beer is an American invention. The first St. Patrick's Day Parade was in 1762 in New York City when Irish soldiers serving in the Royal Army got a few bag-pipers together to march through the city. Irish laws forbid pubs from being open on March 17th. The "Paddy powers" finally got their act together and decided to use their patron saint to further Irish tourism and ended the ban in 1994.
Talk about a sweet investment! In 1759, Arthur Guinness signed a lease for 9,000 years on the property at St. James Gates for a whopping $70 a year.
Buzz kill: The annual cost for the "Irish Flu" in the U.S. is $148 billion, due to workers missing work and poor job performance, (source: San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center).

The Fratellis 'Flathead' (music video)
I received a few e-mails asking who is playing on the new iTunes commercial. Answer: the best group to come out of Scotland in a long time-the Fratellis!
The 300
I went to watch the "300" with Craig and Mel Friday night, and I have to say, sitting elbow to elbow in a packed theater with two dudes, while watching a bunch of chest bearing, underwear clad Spartans fight definitely tests your ability to block any questions of sexuality to focus on the movie. Luckily, the "300" lived up to its billing as pure exciting "eye candy" and perhaps the best film of the year. (Photo courtesy of MSNBC)
In 480 BC, 300 Spartans lead by King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) went to Thermopylae (Greek translation: Hot Gates) to face the largest amphibious attack known to man, a Persian attack assembled by the living God (megalomaniac) Xerxes. Of course since the history of this battle wasn't penned until 50-years later by Greek historian, Herodotus in his accounts of the Greco-Persians War in 430 BC, we will never know the exact account of what went down, but Frank Miller and Lynn Varley did an excellent job of a first-person narrative in their graphic novel, "The 300", as told by a surviving red-caped Spartan, harking back to the oral-history of the time. The movie was as splendid example of a war-action flick as possible, combining art and form with drama and spirit spawning every desirable emotion from this genre.
You can't help but leave the theater with thoughts of your own sacrifices and resolutions for your country. The Spartan Queen, Gorgo (played by Lena Headley) is both sensuous and strong with a unique combination of form and pulchritude-Spartan in both manner, loyalty and action. The Spartan men seek a beautiful death held by only those chivalrous warriors forged by a hammer from iron into a sword. There aren't any fat-bodies or cowards wearing a red-cape and carrying the Spartan sword. The Spartans' phalanx is as impenetrable and strong as the Thermopylae pass itself. The moxie of legends, even without a movie of this quality, the story alone is enough to have Tom Cruise impose the same tactics in "the Last Samurai".

Happy 44th Birthday to Kathy Ireland!
Indeed, the Bushido shares a birthday with Super-Model Kathy Ireland! Happy birthday Ms. Ireland. Other beauties of interest born today are former Miss Americas Nanette Pearson (Miss Utah 1997) and Holly Ann Solo (Miss Alaska 1991). Also former Playmate of the Year Kathleen Ann Shower (Miss May 1985) was born today.
The Bushido will be taking in dinner at Il Cortile tonight. I am stoked to say the least.

The Big Lebowski - F_cking Short Version
I just realized that I owe you all a few Wednesday's WTFs? I hope this makes up for it. Thanks to the other JET from Louisville, KY (home of the original "Lebowski Fest" for sending me this. Btw, for the Bushido's readers in Seattle, your Lebowskifest begins this Friday! FYI: Not office apropos, that is, unless you are in the f-in Navy!

Colorful, campy and catchy, just the kind of thing to make Freddie Mercury smile down from Heaven with that discombobulated British grill. The only thing this is missing is a white, skin-tight jump suit to make it all "jive". -Somewhere Dateline's Chris Hansen is salivating with anticipation for Mika to show up at the next front house.
Wednesday's WTF? FOX News attempts comedy...key word attempts
Joel Surnow (creator of "24") felt that shows (i.e. "The Daily Show") have too much fun at the hands of Republicans. "The 1/2 Hour News Hour" attempts to remedy this by not making fun of Conservatives (only Dems). FOX News WTF? This show is not funny. I went through all of the clips and this was the "funniest" one I could find. The rest barely tickle my money, err, funny bone. But if the Missionary position is your fav, then this just might be your nightly half-hour of humor. As for the Bushido, I'll stick with Bill M, Letterman, the Daily Show, TV's Craig Ferguson or "Rules of Engagement" for my fill of happiness and humor.
